ALEXANDRIA TESTANI

I'm currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at Wilfrid Laurier University and my previous education is an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Social Development Studies, with specializations in Social Work and Individual Well-Being and Development, from the University of Waterloo with a minor in Peace and Conflict studies. I am registered with the OCSWSSW as a Registered Social Service Worker.

Choosing therapy is hard, it can be vulnerable and it's not a fast process but building a space that helps you feel comfort, empathy, and safety is my goal. Our lives are unique, and we experience challenges as unique as we are. It’s okay to need support in some areas of our lives. Brené Brown states, "You are imperfect, you are wired for struggle, that you are worthy of love and belonging”.

I have been working in the social services sector for the past 12 years and with New Moon counselling for just over a year spending my time gaining knowledge and perfecting my skills working with various individuals who may be living with, but not limited to:

My experience working with complex mental health issues comes from work I have done with youth homelessness and mental health, restorative justice, the judicial system, and extensive knowledge of the aging population and healthcare. I utilize various therapeutic modalities through an eclectic approach including Emotion-focused therapy, Cognitive behavioral therapy, Dialectical behavioral therapy, Acceptance and commitment therapy, Attachment theory, and currently gaining additional knowledge through training in perinatal mental health.

In my personal life, you can find me reading a good book (or five in a row) if time allows. When I'm not reading, I love to be outdoors with family and friends building connections with nature and getting my body moving. I spend a lot of time at the barn as a parent watching my child ride, feeding horses, and taking a moment to enjoy the views. I love to travel, and I hope to check off more destinations in the future.

In my work here at New Moon Counselling, I am grateful to be able to offer support to whoever may wish to start their journey here.
