ALEXANDRIA TESTANI

I'm currently a student in the Master of Social Work program at Wilfrid Laurier University and have an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Social Development Studies, with specializations in Social Work and Individual Well-Being and Development, from the University of Waterloo with a minor in Peace and Conflict studies. I am also registered with the OCSWSSW as a Registered Social Service Worker.

Therapy is a way for each person to address their needs while building trusting and open relationships with the people in their lives. It is essential to our sense of well-being to both listen to our needs and support each other. Brené Brown states, "We don't have to do it all alone. We were never meant to." Our lives are unique, and we experience challenges as unique as we are. I am here to support you through those challenges, whatever they may be. My greatest belief is that the opportunity for growth is always there, no matter the journey.

I have considerable knowledge and experience working with grief and end-of-life care through my work in palliative care and comprehensive facilitation skills through my roles at Community Justice Initiatives and the John Howard Society. I bring to my practice strong empathetic and active listening skills and an ability to hold space for whatever you might be going through. I often push against the idea of being put in a box in terms of rigid modalities and hope to intertwine the greatness of many through an eclectic approach.

In my personal life, you can usually find me curled up with a good book (or five in a row) as I have been an avid reader all my life. When I'm not reading, I love to be outdoors with my family and friends building connections with nature. I spend most Sundays at a barn feeding horses candy canes and veggies (to balance it out, of course). Travelling has also become a big part of my identity over the years, and I have a long list of places I hope to check off in the future. I enjoy making memories in all aspects of my life.

I'm excited to move forward on my journey here at New Moon Counselling and offer support to whoever may wish to start their journey here as well.
