KRISHNA VYAS
I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OASWSSW). I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Brown School of Social Work, United States, a Master of Development Communications degree, and an M. Phil degree in Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy from Gujarat, India.
My passion for helping people and advocating for mental health led me to become a social worker. As an experienced social worker of 12 years, I have worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, child welfare, youth organizations, and hospices within Canada, USA and India. My passion and motivation in this field comes from the transformative power of social work in people's lives, and I feel honored to support individuals through challenging times in their lives.
Life is full of challenges and transitions, and when these obstacles become overwhelming, certain emotions and behavioral patterns may affect your relationships, career, and sense of self-esteem. As an individual who was raised between two cultures, I am intimately familiar with all these challenges of adapting to a new environment.
I have worked with clients with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, academic stress, workplace stress, and relationship conflicts. I have experience working with young children and families struggling in the home, whether with new challenging behaviors or sudden traumatic events. My therapeutic approaches pull from culturally adaptive Cognitive behavioral therapy, Dialectical behavioral therapy, and Strengths-Based and Person-Centered theory.
Together, we all can end the stigma towards therapy by openly discussing mental health and treatment, educating ourselves on mental health, and showing compassion to those dealing with their mental health, thereby fostering a supportive community in which others feel safe and understood. When I am not seeing clients, I enjoy painting, singing, camping in nature, and eating chocolate creps and waffles.
Be it a transition, or a sudden change in your life, please know that by seeking help, you are already displaying great courage and have taken a big step toward healing. Having a nurturing environment will allow you to grow significantly!
